Home Made Power Supplies

I realised that over the years I had constructed quite a few different power supplies for various different purposes. I though I'd gather them all together in this post with some pictures.

This is one I made for powering projects that required a lot of current. It uses an old server power supply with the 3v, 5v and 12v lines broken out. A simple plyword box. The handle is made from an old coping saw that had broken that I had in my bits box proving that you should never throw anything out.

This one is a portable variable supply. The idea being I can plug in any old laptop charger or a lithium battery and have a variable supply. It uses a cheap ebay buck converter. It also has fixed 3v, 5v and 12v outputs.

This one is an miniaturised version of the previous one using a slightly better ebay module and a more compact perspex "sandwich" case.

I build this one as I was fed up of the multitude of devices I always seemed to have hanging about charging at various places in the house. It contains an old PC power supply which has plenty of current to charge many devices simultaneously. I've de-soldered some USB sockets from some old PC motherboards and used them to plug the various USB cables into. It has several USB micro, a USB C and a few USB mini cables. Adding more cables is easy as there are spare USB slots on the back.

This one has already been documented in a previous post. It's an old NAS box with an old server power supply and a variable voltage/current ebay module. It gives 0-45v at 2 amps.

This is one I have sat on my desk. It's an old PC power supply with the 3v, 5v and 12v broken out on the front. It also powers all the DC devices on my desk such as soldering extractor, lights, small monitor, ethernet switch, saving me having a multitude of AC adapters plugged in.
